The Mission of the Peninsula Vineyard—10 Things You Can
Do
10 Things You Can Do Right
Now
(to live the mission!)
1. Pray! Ask God how you can be a part of doing the mission. Ask God about your family, friends and community, how you might extend the transforming love of Jesus to them. Be ready to pray. Be ready to tell your story. Be ready to help.
2. Commit to learning about the needs around you. Intentionally go where you will see need. If it isn't immediately around you, it may be in another neighborhood or city, or even another country. Pray and ask God to open your eyes.
3. Contact the Justice and Compassion ministry and learn about the work our church is already doing and investing in, and learn how to get involved. Check out VCFP's Outreach page to learn about ministries you can connect with that our church already supports.
4. Keep some food, coupons, vouchers, etc. in your car and hand them out to the people you encounter throughout the day who have a need. Be willing to pray for people too. (Many restaurants and fast-food places sell vouchers and gift certificates.)
5. Consider visiting an international missionary that VCFP supports. Or during holidays consider a special care package for those who are abroad. Commit to learning all you can about the work and the culture you are supporting and praying for them on a regular basis.
6. Think about the good that God has done for you this week. Ask God to give you an opportunity to share one good thing he has done with a friend or a coworker over coffee. Or invite them to the Alpha course (see the website for the dates Alpha currently runs)
7. Begin reading the books on the Justice and Compassion Ministry Book List. Ask God to speak to you about His call for you to love justice, do mercy and walk humbly with your God.
8. Clean out your house and closets and donate the quality functional things you don't use or don't need to a ministry VCFP supports. And, while you are at it, consider donating gift cards to those agencies, so individuals can get needed clothes and supplies. (Target, Payless, Costco, etc.)
9. Consider developing an friendship with someone of a different race or ethnicity or with someone from a different economic background. Ask God what He might want to reveal to you in this new friendship.
10. Consider financially giving to a ministry that VCFP supports. As you give financially, pray for the ministry and those that work there and are served by the organization.
