Sunday Morning Ministry Opportunities
We have opportunities in the following ministry areas: sound set-up, projection, greeting, nursery, preschool, and youth. If you would like more information on how to participate in one of these ministries, please send an email to the church office. Thanks!
Men’s Monthly Breakfast
Come join other men from VCFP for breakfast on Tuesday, September 7, from 7:15-8:15am at Bajis' Down The Street Cafe (2423 Old Middlefield Road). This month, Mike McKenna will be sharing his testimony of God’s mercy and healing in the area of sexual integrity. . This is also a great way to meet other men in the church and to build deeper friendships together. If you have questions, please contact the church office.
Come and Celebrate With Us!
The Mid-Peninsula Vineyeard in San Carlos (1566 Arroyo Avenue) invites you to a time of extended worship and rejoicing in the presence of Jesus on September 10 at 7pm. We want to encourage all forms of expression through song, dance, painting and drawing. We are blessed to have Danny Daniels lead us. Danny has a long history of leading worship and equipping the saints for ministry. Look forward to an uplifting experience...and bring a friend!
Men Pursuing Purity Conference - Saturday, September 11
This one-day conference, presented by the Men’s Ministry of Menlo Park Presbyterian church and run by Peter Kockelman, a former member of VCFP, is held at Open Door Church in Mountain View, from 8:30-1pm. The purpose is to inspire and equip men to stand and grow in the strength of Christ to overcome sexual addiction. We encourage all men to attend who are seeking to receive grace and grow in hope in this area of struggle. After the conference, you will have the opportunity to join a men’s small group to continue in the healing and freedom that the conference initiates. Pick up a flier at the church information table, and feel free to talk to Ron Giles, VCFP Men’s Ministry leader, contact the church office, if you would like to know more.
Town Hall Meeting
On September 12 at 12:15pm, we will have our quarterly Town Hall Meeting. If you have not been to a Town Hall Meeting, it is a time for me, Alex, and other leader’s in the church to share more about what is happening in the life of the church and where we see things headed for that next quarter. They are an hour and a half long, are usually very interactive and hopefully give members of VCFP a deeper sense of how to pray for the community, to invest in the community and own where the church is headed. We also want to try something NEW at this next Town Hall Meeting. As some of you have already noticed, this next meeting will be at 12:15, or 45 minutes after the end of our service. We want to have the meeting at this time to see if it allows a greater number in the community attend the meeting. While the meetings have been well attended, it is difficult for people who live farther away to make it back for a meeting in the evening. So, on September 12 we will meet at 12:15 in M2 (Youth Room) from 12:15 to 1:45. The idea will be for those who wish to attend to go and get lunch after church, either eating out or bringing it back to eat during the meeting. There will be toys out on the lawn so that those with kids can possibly have one parent out on the lawn and the other in the meeting. There will be no official childcare. We hope that this will make it easier for many in the community to come, and we look forward to seeing you there.
An Evening In Venice
Please join friends of New Creation Home Ministries, a ministry providing housing and support services for teen mothers and children in East Palo Alto, for our annual dinner and auction fundraiser! “An Evening in Venice” will be held on Saturday, September 18 from 5:30pm-8:30pm at a private residence in the Los Altos Hills. This evening will consist of a wonderful Italian meal, a time to hear about the work of NCHM, a live and silent auction, and a special live performance of Italian music by former VCFP member, Susan Stokes. We will be auctioning off great items, including vacation getaways to Lake Almanor, CA., Sun River, OR., Capitola, CA., and gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses. There is no per ticket charge for this event. Email the church office for more information.
Biblical Peacemaking: Principles & Practice for Conflict Resolution
All Church training, Saturday, October 16, 9-12pm. More details to come. Options for afternoon session will be announced soon.
Building Community While Watching Football!
VCFP is looking into having a church wide fantasy football league (or leagues if we have enough people). If you have never played fantasy football, here is a description: Fantasy Football gives you the opportunity to run your own team of professional football players. You draft your team of the best players from across the NFL and receive points based on those players’ performances in the NFL games each week of the football season. You set weekly lineups, propose, accept and reject trades, sign free agents, and compete against other teams in your league. It can take less than 2 minutes per week to setup your lineup based on “expert recommended” suggestions or you could research football stats for hours in search of the perfect player match ups. (This doesn’t mean you will score better than the quick picks!). We will set up an auto-draft where each person prioritizes which players they want to select (it starts with an expert generated list as a template) and then the players are assigned to each team through a computerized draft. As you compete with other players from church you can also get to know them and meet new people from church. It also makes watching football games a lot more interesting since you can cheer for players to do well instead of just teams. Both men and women are encouraged to participate. Please contact the church office if you are interested. Deadline to sign up is the end of August.
